Skulduggery of the week: Tons of Ones
Between 12:40 and 12:50 p.m. on July 1, a burglar broke into a white 2014 Jeep Cherokee at Whole Foods Market in the 4100 block of Lomo Alto Drive and stole two envelopes from the center console, each containing 100 one-dollar bills. The driver suspects that he might have been followed from a bank where he withdrew the money moments earlier.
HIGHLAND PARK
30 TUESDAY
Between 10 and 11:45 a.m., a vandal deliberately scratched a green 2015 Jeep Wrangler in a parking lot in the 5000 block of Holland Avenue, causing $1,000 in damage. The owner bought the Jeep the previous day and thinks a co-worker harboring a grudge might be responsible for the mischief.
Between 11:15 a.m. and 12:45 p.m., a thief stole $1,630 worth of landscaping equipment from an unlocked yellow Chevrolet van in the 4300 block of Bordeaux Avenue.
1 WEDNESDAY
At 4:48 p.m., a resident of the 4600 block of Arcady Avenuereported the burglary of a detached garage between June 28 and June 30 that resulted in $900 worth of tools and $450 worth of landscaping equipment being stolen.
2 THURSDAY
At 3 a.m., David Michael Dux, 30, of Dallas was arrested in the 4200 block of Lorraine Avenue on a public intoxication charge.
At 10:27 a.m., two cars were damaged following an accident at the intersection of Mockingbird Lane and Eastern Avenue. The driver of a blue 2013 Honda CRV ran a red light while traveling eastbound on Mockingbird and struck a 2015 Lexus sedan. Both vehicles spun, with the Honda hitting a private fence and the Lexus striking a light pole. The driver of the Honda was given a ticket for running the red light. Another red-light runner at the same intersection caused a crash at 7:42 p.m. that evening, when a black 2014 Infiniti sedan caused a 2011 Nissan Versa to spin into and destroy a sprinkler head. The driver of the Infiniti was given a ticket.
UNIVERSITY PARK
29 MONDAY
At 6:20 a.m., a burglar broke into Goo Goo Eyes at the Miracle Mile shopping center and stole $300 worth of glasses. A burglar targeted the same store at 4:23 a.m. on July 3, when a miscreant walked away with 71 pairs of Ray-Ban sunglasses and 18 pairs of Chanel sunglasses, but was unable to break the glass at the adjacent Reading Glasses to Go location with concrete.
Between 7 p.m. on June 28 and 1 p.m. on June 29, a thief stole a Trek boys bicycle from a porch in the 3500 block of Rosedale Avenue.
30 TUESDAY
At 12:03 a.m., a Highland Park High School athlete was arrested following a traffic stop involving a black 2004 Jeep Wrangler in the 5600 block of Lovers Lane on a charge of possession of marijuana.
At 11:45 a.m., a shoplifter stole $28 worth of merchandise from CVS in Park Cities Plaza. SMU police later arrested Zachary Quentin Marks, 29, on a criminal trespass charge and found the pilfered items in the process.
1 WEDNESDAY
Between 7:13 and 7:22 a.m., a burglar broke into a white 2011 GMC Yukon at Christ Lutheran Church in the 3000 block of Lovers Lane and stole a $300 iPhone and a $350 Tory Burch bag containing a $200 wallet.
Between 6:30 p.m. on June 30 and 7:45 a.m. on July 1, a thief stole the $3,000 tailgate from a white 2008 Ford F-250 pickup truck in the 3400 block of Binkley Avenue.
2 THURSDAY
Between 6 and 7 p.m., a burglar broke into a gray 2012 Audi Q5 in the 7800 block of Pickwick Lane and stole a $200 Coach bag containing $2,200 in cash.
3 FRIDAY
At 7:15 a.m., an armed robber stole $993 worth of cigarettes and $200 in cash from the Shell store in the Miracle Mile shopping center.
5 SUNDAY
At 4 a.m., Meredith Margit Hamilton, 23, of Dallas was arrested in the 4200 block of University Boulevard on a public intoxication charge.
At 6:30 a.m., a thief tried to pay their breakfast tab with a fake $100 bill at Cafe Brazil in the 6400 block of North Central Expressway.
Between 8 p.m. on July 4 and 10 a.m. on July 5, a thief stole the rear license plate from a white 2010 Lexus sedan in the 3800 block of Marquette Street.
Between 7:45 and 8:45 p.m., a burglar broke into a gray 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe in the 3300 block of Daniel Avenue and stole a $50 purse.
