SKULDUGGERY OF THE WEEK: Taken to the Cleaners

At 10:27 a.m. on June 5, a resident of the 4600 block of Livingston Avenue reported the theft of $160 in cash by a contractor hired to clean windows and gutters. The thief was supposed to complete the work on May 31, when he took the money to purchase supplies. But despite repeated calls from the homeowner, he never
returned to finish the job.


HIGHLAND PARK

3 TUESDAY
Between 11:30 p.m. on June 2 and 1:45 a.m. on June 3, a thief stole a wallet containing $300 in cash from an apartment in the 4200 block of Lomo Alto Drive. The teenage owner of the wallet told police that it was stolen at a party, and that the perpetrator might have fled in either a silver Toyota FJ Cruiser or a red Jeep Wrangler.
 
4 WEDNESDAY
Between 10:30 p.m. on June 3 and 7 a.m. on June 4, a thief stole eight copper downspouts, valued at $1,000, from a townhouse complex in the 4600 block of Abbott Avenue.

 
5 THURSDAY
At 1:50 a.m., Mary Leta Morgan, 42, of Dallas was arrested in the 4300 block of Knox Street on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
 
Between 1:25 and 1:32 p.m., a thief stole a $500 Stihl leaf blower from the backyard of a house in the 4200 block of Armstrong Avenue.
 
At 8:49 p.m., an employee of Highland Park United Methodist Church reported finding a man passed out in the church bathroom after an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. When awakened by police, the man’s breath smelled of alcohol. He admitted to drinking two beers and taking prescription medication after the meeting. The 20-year-old man was issued citations for minor in possession and consumption by a minor.
 
6 FRIDAY
At 4:44 p.m., Christopher Dwayne Johnson, 37, of Dallas was arrested in the 3100 block of Drexel Drive on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia as well as a felony theft warrant.
 
7 SATURDAY
At 9:47 a.m., Steven Lawrence Roepke, 25, was arrested in the 4200 block of Newton Avenue on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.


UNIVERSITY PARK

2 MONDAY
Between 9 and 9:05 a.m., a thief entered an unlocked silver 2011 Jeep Laredo at St. Christopher Episcopal Church and stole a $2,000 Louis Vuitton purse, an $800 Louis Vuitton wallet, a $400 iPhone, and $400 in cash.
 
At 4:47 p.m., a woman reported that a vandal keyed her black 2013 Honda Civic on May 30 in the 4100 block of Emerson Avenue.
 
3 TUESDAY
At 2:57 p.m., an SMU student reported the theft of a $425 Trek bicycle between May 22 and June 1 from the 3400 block of Asbury Avenue.
 
4 WEDNESDAY
Between 7 p.m. on June 3 and 11 a.m. on June 4, a thief stole a $399 iPod Touch from an unlocked silver 2012 Mercedes SUV in the 2900 block of Amherst Street.
 
5 THURSDAY
Between 8:05 and 8:15 a.m., a burglar broke into a silver 2012 Volkswagen Passat at St. Christopher Episcopal Church and stole a $200 Kindle reader, a $100 purse, and a $10 checkbook.
 
Between 11 and 11:45 a.m., a thief stole a $600 iPhone 5 from the restroom in the teacher workroom at University Park Elementary School.
 
7 SATURDAY
Between 3:15 and 4:05 p.m., a thief stole a $500 iPhone 5S at Park Cities YMCA.
 
8 SUNDAY
Between 12:55 and 6 a.m., a vandal threw asphalt at the door of a home in the 4200 block of Emerson Avenue, causing $1,000 in damage.
 
At 6:45 p.m., Bradley Linus Barton, 43, of University Park was arrested in the 7000 block of Vassar Drive on a public intoxication charge.


DALLAS
