Cell Phone Tower Moves Closer to Heaven

Cell-phone service in the Park Cities might be assisted with some divine intervention after the Highland Park Town Council on Monday gave the go-ahead for AT&T to build an antenna tower on the roof of Highland Park United Methodist Church.

The tower will be attached to the church’s air conditioning equipment platform on the flat roof of Wesley Hall. The ordinance passed on Monday allows for one tower, meaning any future requests would need separate council permission.

For more council business on Monday, read on after the jump.

  • The council also approved a request from Highland Park Village, which plans to convert 3,200 square feet of vacant second-level office space to a retail space. The retailer would then be allocated nine parking spaces for its customers, reducing the amount of surplus parking at the shopping center.
  • The council agreed to reimburse University Park for 25 percent of the cost of a re-striping project for the public running track at Germany Park, for a total of $1,825. That percentage falls in line with the contribution HP has made to other improvements to the track in recent years. However, it falls short of the $2,000, or 27.4 percent, that UP officials requested for this project. UP is expected to make up the difference.
  • The council approved a consulting agreement with the Dallas Arboretum to help in its beautification efforts at Flippen Park and other public areas. The horticultural services agreement will pay up to $3,000 for Arboretum officials to meet with HP parks staffers at least four times a year to offer seasonal planting recommendations.
