Scots Keep Rolling on Hardwood
Highland Park reached the halfway point in the District 10-4A boys basketball schedule on Friday with its unblemished record still intact.
The Scots reversed their recent trend of slow starts and hammered North Forney 64-43 to remain atop in the 10-4A standings.
HP led 33-17 at halftime after subpar first-half performances in each of its two prior games. The Scots (21-3, 7-0) hit 21 of 25 free throws in the game and held a 33-13 rebounding advantage. They also recorded 14 steals as a team.
Matthew Crites paced three players in double figures with 17 points, while Evan Beucler added 13 points and Clayton Murtha finished with 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
HP will begin the second half of the 10-4A slate on Tuesday when it hosts Mesquite Poteet.
On the girls side, Highland Park was upset by North Forney 59-56 in overtime on Friday, dropping the Lady Scots (14-7, 5-4) into a tie for third place in the 10-4A standings. Katie Thiebaud scored 17 points to lead HP, which will travel to Poteet on Tuesday.
