Several Park Cities People Running For Office
We’ve extensively covered the race for the open seat in Texas House District 108, because the three Republicans who will be on the ballot for the March 4 primary — Highland Park High School graduate Court Alley, University Park resident Morgan Meyer, and Park Cities native Chart Westcott — all have ties to the Bubble. And the winner among those three will face Democrat Leigh Bailey, another University Park resident, in November.
But there’s another race with multiple Park Cities people in it. Five Democrats are running for the open seat in the 301st Family District Court. Two of them, Mary Brown and David Hanschen, are University Park residents, and a third — George White — graduated from Highland Park High School. (The other two, Craig Bonham and Lawrence J. Praeger, have no Park Cities connections.)
Meanwhile, University Park resident Dan Branch, the longtime representative for District 108, is facing Ken Paxton and Barry Smitherton in the Republican primary for attorney general. And Highland Park resident Don Huffines is trying to unseat state Sen. John Carona in the GOP primary for District 16.
Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins, a resident of Highland Park, is not being challenged by any other Democrats in March, but he’ll have to face Republican Ron Natinsky in November. And another Highland Park resident, Republican Geraldine “Tincy” Miller, will defend her District 12 seat on the State Board of Education against Democrat Lois Parrott in the fall.
