The Plaid Report Returns to Inboxes Today

Although we’ve worked side by side for five years, sports editor Chuck Cox and I lead very different lives. Because I’m a dad, my life outside the office is governed by my sons. Because he has no kids, Chuck’s life outside the office is governed by Chuck. He watches rock stars play music seemingly every week; I watch rugrats on playgrounds certainly every week. Chuck routinely gets on planes to take in big-league games across the country; I routinely get on DART trains because my boys are amused by traveling without seatbelts.

Are you sensing my jealousy yet?

All of this is on my mind because I was editing the first 2013-14 edition of The Plaid Report, Chuck’s weekly e-newsletter about Highland Park High School sports, which will go out this morning. During the editing process, the automated gremlins behind our newsletter distributor, Mail Chimp, showed me a list of previous Plaid Report subject lines, matched with stats on how many subscribers opened the corresponding emails. The point being, you’ve got to hook the reader.

So, based on Chuck’s intro to this week’s missive, the subject line ended up as “The Plaid Report — My Summer Dominated Your Summer.” Want to find out why? Subscribe today.

Dan – The Plaid Report has been a GREAT tool for HP Sports fans and parents! Always fun to get a quick weekly review of ALL HP Sports in season and occasionally find a blurb or pic featuring your child or friend. it’s a nice compilation of the blog and the paper. Keep up the good work, Chuck!
