Three Highland Park athletes — football players William Barns and Bryce Green and basketball player Kaitlyn Read — have earned all-state recognition.

Barns (6-2, 260) was a first-team selection on the Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 4A All-State team. The center will be continuing his playing career at SMU. Green (6-0, 210) earned honorable mention. Green, who played linebacker for Highland Park, will be playing lacrosse at Furman.

Read, a senior point guard, earned a spot on the first team of the Texas Girls Coaches Association’s Class 4A All-State squad. Read, who will play at New York University, averaged 16.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game, and she also led the team in 3-pointers with 30. Read finished her four-year career as a starter for the Lady Scots with 1,658 points. Read was also the District 10-4A Offensive Player of the Year.
