HP Hits Target During Archery Tournament
Highland Park was the runner-up in the team standings as the school’s growing archery club hosted its inaugural tournament over the weekend.
The Scots finished behind Prosper in the Highland Park Scholarship Tournament, which took place in the gym at Highland Park Middle School. Prosper was the team champion.
HP junior Ashley Schumacher (287 points) placed second in the girls division, followed by freshman teammate Elle Pace (286) in third. Both had 20 bullseyes.
They finished just behind the total scores of individual gold medalist Maiya Oyakawa from Prosper with 290 points. Prosper’s Colin Sweeney was the boys winner, while HP’s top score came from Sean Brandt in fourth.
HP had 36 archers competing on two high school teams. The tournament also featured a middle school division, which was won by HP eighth-grader Spencer Wright. The two-day event included more than 400 competitors overall.
