Rutledge, Herring Pace Scots at Jesuit
Highland Park sprinted to the team title in the Class 5A boys division at the prestigious Jesuit-Sheaner Relays on Saturday.
John Rutledge claimed the 100-meter title by more than a second, while Luke Herring earned a gold medal in the 110 hurdles. The Scots also won the 4×100 and 4×200 relays.
Meanwhile, the HP girls featured several individual winners while cruising to the team crown in the varsity girls division at the Garland ISD Relays on Thursday.
Event champions for the Lady Scots included Hattie Speicher (long jump and triple jump), Alli Grace Ott (3,200), Sara Cavey (1,600), Savannah Hinze (300 hurdles), and Ailey Fidler (pole vault).
The Lady Scots also sent a contingent of runners to the Texas Relays on Friday in Austin. Highlights included a fourth-place finish in the sprint medley relay and a fifth-place showing in the 4×800 relay. Five athletes set personal records in their respective legs.
Next up, HP will host the annual Tracy Wills Invitational meet on April 2 at Germany Park. Along with competition throughout the day, the festivities will include a “fun run” for girls in kindergarten through sixth grade at 10 a.m.
The HP boys will head to the Goldsmith Relays on March 31 in Lewisville for their final tuneup prior to the District 13-5A meet beginning April 11 in Mesquite.
