Scheffler Wins Second Event in 3 Weeks
It took Scottie Scheffler about three years’ worth of close calls on the PGA Tour before he claimed his first victory.
It took Scheffler only a few weeks to earn his second win on Sunday at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando, Florida. The former Highland Park standout previously triumphed at the Phoenix Open on Feb. 13.
Scheffler made a move up the leaderboard during Saturday’s third round, then fired an even-par round of 72 on Sunday at Bay Hill Golf Course to hold of a trio of runner-up finishers including Viktor Hovland, Tyrrell Hatton, and Billy Horschel.
With the win, Scheffler advanced to the No. 5 spot in the Official World Golf Ranking entering the Players Championship, which begins on Thursday in suburban Jacksonville. He’s also atop the Tour’s FedEx Cup standings.
