Ursuline Lacrosse Team Gives Holiday Salute to Kids

The Ursuline lacrosse team recently cheered up children at the annual Snowball Express at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
The event brings hope and happy memories to children who have lost a parent in the military. It was the second year the lacrosse team participated in the event, which began in 2006.
Forty players spent time with more than 200 children ages 5-10. The Ursuline students made bracelets, played with Legos, and watched movies. They also danced and played ping pong.
“This is by far my favorite volunteer service,” said senior Lauren Hebig, who first spearheaded the volunteer opportunity for her team last year. “At first the children are really shy, but they get comfortable with you. It’s sad, but it’s really great that they’re still smiling. Every kid deals with loss differently.”
Ursuline head coach Lori Wales helped blow up balloons. She was amazed how quickly the students developed friendships with the children.
“The experience was amazing,” Wales said. “It was so moving. What we received from participating in the event is so much more than what we gave.”
That’s why Hebig plans on going back as much as she can.
“Even though I’m graduating, I will stay involved with this organization,” she said. “I just love kids, and we’re helping them have a better Christmas.”
