“It’s a dream come true. The Big 12 is one of the best conferences,” Elliott said after signing his letter of intent in Jesuit’s Hughes Hall. “I love the players. I feel like I can be their teammate for another four years.”
Elliott (6-4, 270 pounds) gave his verbal commitment to the Horned Frogs after his official campus visit in late January. He chose TCU over offers from Texas Tech, Nevada, New Mexico, and Fresno State, among others.
In the Big 12, one of the schools Elliott will face each year is Iowa State, where Jesuit teammate Orion Salters signed on Wednesday. Salters is the third Jesuit player to sign with the Cyclones in the past decade.
The signing capped a late surge in recruiting interest in Elliott, who only started one season at tackle for the Rangers. He was a unanimous first-team all-district selection and helped lead them to the third round of the Class 5A Division II playoffs.
Jesuit head coach Brandon Hickman said Elliott bulked up significantly last summer, gaining about 25 pounds of muscle.
“Trey made a commitment to the weight room. His work ethic was unbelievable,” Hickman said. “He was a big factor in why we were able to run the football this year.”
Besides Elliott and Salters, other Jesuit players to sign letters of intent on Wednesday included defensive end Justin Rotich, who signed with Division II St. Joseph’s (Ind.), and offensive lineman Jack Summers, who will attend University of Puget Sound.
Also on Wednesday, Jesuit recognized four lacrosse players who have committed to various colleges, including Lee Belland (Lehigh University), Will Kane (University of Detroit), Hank Likes (Lindenwood University), and Jason Myers (Washington and Lee University).
