Ursuline Seeks 25th Straight TAPPS Title
The postseason power of the Ursuline soccer team is still alive and kicking.
The Bears will return to a familiar spot today when they play in the TAPPS state championship game in Waco. It’s so familiar in fact, that Ursuline will attempt to return with its 25th consecutive title.
That’s a quarter century of dominance on the pitch that extends back to well before the current group of players was born, and back to when head coach Kelly Wilmoth was in elementary school.
Standing between the Bears (20-4) and the milestone is familiar rival Bishop Lynch, which was the runner-up a year ago. The two teams played twice earlier this season, with Ursuline winning by identical 2-1 scores each time.
The Bears have rolled through the playoffs so far, outscoring their first three opponents by a combined margin of 18-1. That includes a 6-0 shutout of San Antonio Incarnate Word in the semifinals on Wednesday.
The title game is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Waco ISD Stadium. You can find ticket information for the TAPPS state tournament here, and there will be a live-stream broadcast here.
