Eagles Fly Past TCA in Season Opener
Preston Morway and the ESD offense were already in midseason form during their season opener on Friday.
Morway threw five touchdown passes and ran for another score as the Eagles pounded Trinity Christian 49-26 at Jones Family Stadium.
The senior quarterback picked apart the TCA defense by completing 31 of 52 passes for 477 yards. Four ESD receivers finished with at least four catches and 60 yards apiece, led by Jack Loftus with 10 grabs for 197 yards. River Woods caught a pair of scoring throws.
The Eagles found their stride in the second quarter, with three consecutive drives capped by Morway touchdown passes — one each to Smith Cochran, Val Mooty, and Woods. Another scoring toss to Brodie Burke helped ESD surge to a 28-6 halftime advantage.
The Trojans, beginning their second season under Pro Football Hall of Fame coach Mike Singletary, cut the deficit to 38-26 in the fourth quarter, as Dylan Corbin had three touchdown passes.
However, Loftus returned a blocked conversion for two points for ESD, and the Eagles later added a safety to regain control.
After a bye week, the Eagles will return to action on Sept. 13 when they host Fort Worth Country Day.
