Sutherland, a sophomore, bested the time of 15;56.87 set by Trina Leopold in 1989. Sutherland beat her personal best by six seconds and finished fifth overall to earn her first All-American honor. “This is just really incredible and I don’t exactly know what to think,” Sutherland said in a Texas press release. “I just count my blessings for having done so well. What works best for me is not thinking about places or times and just hone in on my racing and catching one person at a time. It is those small, short goals that help me not get discouraged throughout the race.” The Longhorns finished fourth at the meet. Share this article...EmailFacebookGoogleTwitterLinkedin
