HPHS Senior Keeps Raising the Bar
Before aging out of the youth category in the sport of weightlifting, Highland Park senior Alexandra Thornton made one more splash at the recent American Open in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
In her fifth time competing at one of the country’s most prestigious meets, Thornton set new personal bests by lifting 83 kilograms in the snatch and 103 kg in the clean and jerk, for a total of 186 kg.
After graduating this spring, the 17-year-old plans to continue competing in the sport in the junior ranks.
