Dallas CASA Needs Bilingual Volunteers
Dallas CASA has an urgent need for bilingual Spanish-speaking volunteers to serve as advocates for children who have been removed from unsafe homes.
Dallas CASA will host Mi CASA Su CASA from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 27 at their office located at 2757 Swiss Ave.
Dallas CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) volunteers are trained and supervised to work on behalf of abused and neglected children removed from their homes and placed in the protective care of the state. On an average day in Dallas, more than five children are removed from a home due to abuse or neglect.
Of the more than 4,300 children living in protective care each year, approximately 30 percent are Hispanic but only 10 percent of CASA’s current volunteers speak Spanish. Bilingual volunteers are needed to communicate with the children’s families, attorneys, and judges. Outcomes for the children are more successful if language barriers are reduced or eliminated.
