SKULDUGGERY OF THE WEEK: UNLIKELY TOOLS
Burglars are getting mighty creative in the Park Cities. Apparently, one used a metal foot scraper June 20 to carve a hole in the front door of a home in the 3900 block of Normandy Avenue. The homeowner, who was out of town during the 2:43 p.m. burglary, said nothing appeared to have been stolen but the mail was tossed around.
HIGHLAND PARK
18 Monday
A Park Cities burglar took the whole “at first, you don’t succeed, try again” motto to heart when attempting to break into a 2012 Buick Enclave parked at the Shops of Highland Park. Sometime between 9:50 a.m. and 3:15 p.m., the optimist first tried to pry open the front passenger door but moved on to the back window when the front one wouldn’t shatter. Funny enough, nothing was stolen from the vehicle.
19 Tuesday
A vacant home in the 4500 block of Rheims Place was broken into sometime after an agent opening at noon June 18 and before 9:20 a.m. the following day. Nothing was stolen, but the back door and the electronic housing for the gate were both damaged.
A burglar crept through an unlocked sliding garage door and stole a bicycle from a home in the 4200 block of Bordeaux Avenue while the homeowner was on vacation. Video surveillance showed the burglar enter the garage around 7:45 p.m. June 13 and then exit with the turquoise colored beach cruiser with a basket, the homeowner reported to police at 2:42 p.m. June 19.
UNIVERSITY PARK
18 Monday
Police issued a woman a criminal trespass at McCulloch Intermediate School after causing a verbal disturbance with staff surrounding “various legal issues that are pending” around noon at the school in the 3500 block of Granada Avenue.
20 Wednesday
Kicked in before 8 a.m.: the rear door of a home in the 2900 block of Lovers Lane. Nearly $18,000 of kitchen equipment was stolen, including a $5,000 Kitchenaid refrigerator and $3,000 double over.
21 Thursday
At 7 p.m., a Park Cities woman reported to police that sometime during that day her wallet (including $650 in cash) had been stolen at a business in the 6700 block of Preston Road.
24 Sunday
A $3,100 set of golf clubs were stolen sometime between 8 p.m. June 23 and 2 p.m. the following day from a 2018 gray GMC Yukon parked in the 3400 block of Colgate Avenue.
