HP Girls Win Final District Tuneup

The Highland Park girls topped Hockaday in their final home meet of the season on Tuesday, while the boys fell to St. Mark’s in their half of the dual meet.

It was the final tuneup for the Blue Wave prior to the District 12-5A meet on Saturday in Allen. HP’s district will opponents include Lovejoy, Royse City, Celina, Paris, Paris North Lamar, Gunter, and Pottsboro.

Those who advance from the district meet will compete at the Region II meet on Feb. 2-3 in Mansfield. The state meet, at which the HP boys are the defending champions, is slated for Feb. 16-17 in Austin.

On Tuesday, individual event winners for the girls included Katherine Huang (100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke), Hannah Jiang (200 individual medley), Alicia Bi (50 freestyle), Christina Bambach (100 butterfly), and Bryanna Wilder (100 backstroke). The Blue Wave also triumphed in all three girls relays.

On the boys side, HP’s individual gold medalists included Felix Van Cauwelaert (200 IM, 100 back), Peter Paulus (100 fly, 100 breast), Ethan Nguyen (50 free), and Henry Wang (500 free). The Blue Wave beat the Lions in two of three relays.
