Rise and Shine, Park Cities (5-16-11)
1. Since my beloved Knickerbockers are out of the playoffs, I don’t feel wrong rooting for my adopted hometown Mavs. Plus, these kids make it hard not to:
Say hello to Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Robinson’s 4-year old classes at University Park United Methodist Church’s weekday school. It was Mavs Monday; I assume there will not be a Thunder Thursday.
2. Tonight, the University Park City Council will take on the Rotary Club’s request to land an Apache helicopter in the city on the 4th of July. Two weeks ago, the council elected to table the discussion, until the Rotary Club determined their insurance policy for the event. Tonight, we find out if the policy is up to snuff.
3. On Wednesday, University Park will christen a new fire truck, at 4:30 p.m., at the fire station. The new truck, “The Fightin’ Scot,” will get a warm welcome from Highland Park High School’s bagpipers, drum line, and pep band. All are invited.
Insurance policy should cost less than $1,500.
@Avid Reader: The Rotary Club believed their policy was around $1 million in coverage, which some members of the council didn’t think was sufficient to cover, say, a helicopter accident in a high-density residential area.
