Youth Advisory Commission Gives UP Council Annual Update
Senior officers in University Park’s Youth Advisory Commission told city leaders about their work volunteering at community events, attending the Youth Town Hall, and learning from city staffers during the University Park city council’s May 6 meeting.
Natalie Koch told the council that the commission is in the midst of its spring service project. The project involves organizing a supply drive to assemble hygiene kits for homeless teens, as well as providing input on the University Park Public Library’s summer reading program.
Earlier this year, the commission assisted with the city’s pickleball noise abatement research.
“The biggest takeaways from YAC are by far how much experience we get and how much knowledge we get about local government,” senior officer Laya Mani said.
Mayor Tommy Stewart praised the commission at the conclusion of the officers’ presentation.
“You’ve always done a great job for the city,” he said. “And we’ve always enjoyed working with you.”
In other business, the city council approved a 15% increase in stormwater fees effective June 1, 2025. The most popular monthly rate paid by residents will increase by $2.17, from $14.48 to $16.65.
