Compass School Partners With Teach for America

The Compass School of Texas, in partnership with Teach For America Dallas-Fort Worth, hosted Crafts for a Cause on April 18, an event that brought together Compass students and parents to show appreciation for the vital role teachers play in shaping young minds.

Held on the school’s campus, the event featured a joyful and creative atmosphere where families engaged in making a variety of crafts, all designed with gratitude in mind. The event included hands-on activities, including decorating wooden keychains, assembling bath bombs, designing custom coasters, planting succulents paired with handwritten gratitude notes, crafting personalized bookmarks to celebrate a love of reading, and building colorful, unique lanyards. Each station was designed to provide a thoughtful, handmade gift to honor local educators’ dedication, care, and their daily impact in the classroom.

“Our goal was to create a meaningful opportunity for our students to give back and show gratitude, and what better way than to create something heartfelt and personal for teachers,” said Shelly Sender, Head of School at The Compass School of Texas. “Partnering with Teach For America Dallas-Fort Worth allowed us to extend that appreciation even further to educators across our city.”

TFA was founded by Dallas-native Wendy Kopp in 1990, and launched in Dallas in 2009 and Fort Worth in 2011. Since then, TFA has recruited and trained more than 1,600 passionate educators to North Texas who, once they complete their two-year corps service, have risen to leadership roles within the classroom, local nonprofits, and business organizations with support from school districts in the Metroplex, charter schools, local and state government officials, business, and community advocates. TFA DFW leverages its powerful alumni network to create system-level change that empowers North Texas students, allowing them to pursue lives of unlimited potential and opportunity. TFA DFW alumni from various corps regions and years are a testament to the work TFA does with the community.

The Crafts for Cause event is a continuation of the organization’s work in classrooms and the community. Frances Mitchell, founder and board secretary of The Compass School of Texas, also serves on the Dallas-Fort Worth Regional Advisory Board for Teach For America, where she champions the organization’s mission and helps foster a strong, collaborative partnership between both organizations.
