Baseball Playoffs: Scots Fall to Emerson

Frisco Emerson rallied with two straight wins to eliminate Highland Park in the first round of the Class 5A Division I baseball playoffs.

The Mavericks blanked the Scots 3-0 on Saturday in Frisco in the third and deciding game of the Region II showdown. Both teams won on the road in the first two clashes — HP by a 5-1 score on Thursday and Emerson by a 9-2 count on Friday.

The Scots (20-12) continued their bi-district struggles, dropping their fifth consecutive opening-round series since 2019. HP played well in finishing the regular season in a tie for second place in District 12-5A.

Zach Richard threw a complete-game shutout in Game 3 for the Mavericks (25-7), who tied for the runner-up spot in 11-5A during the regular season. Emerson is the only one of the four 11-5A playoff teams to advance to the area round.
