Lady Scots Claim Third at State Tourney

Highland Park earned a bronze medal in the team standings at the Class 5A girls golf tournament on Tuesday in Georgetown.

The Lady Scots finished with a two-day score of 621 with the quintet of Grace Heiss, Jacqueline Zhuang, Delaney Newberry, Piper Holdridge, and Elle Dyer.

Heiss (75-71—146), a senior playing at state for the second time, broke par in the final round and tied for sixth place individually. She was three shots off the medal podium and six strokes behind individual champion Addie Surber of Montgomery Lake Creek.

As a team, HP improved from 315 in Monday’s first round to 306 in the second round at Legacy Hills Golf Club. Scores were generally lower on the final day with more favorable weather conditions.

The Lady Scots were 32 shots behind team champion San Antonio Alamo Heights but pulled away from fourth-place Colleyville Heritage to hold the third spot from Day 1 to Day 2.

Also contributing to HP’s best state finish in years were Newberry (76-76—152), Dyer (81-78—159), Holdridge (83-81—164), and Zhuang (87-85—172).
