HP Will Have Strength in State Numbers

Highland Park will send two full teams to the Class 5A boys golf state tournament following a stellar showing at the Region II event this week in Pottsboro.

The Scots tied with Prosper Walnut Grove for the regional team title, with a second squad placing another three shots back in third place.

HP had five golfers finish inside the top 10 at regionals, led by Brooks Simmons (71-67—138) in the silver-medal spot. Blake Goodnight, Carter Klein, Edward Lehner, and Charlie Simmons followed closely behind.

Jack Clancy will lead Jesuit Dallas to the 6A state tournament after winning the individual title at the Region II tournament in Grand Prairie. Clancy carded a 71-73—144 to win by one stroke. The Rangers finished second behind Richardson Pearce in the team standings.

The 5A tournament will be at Legacy Hills Golf Club in Georgetown on May 5-6, while the 6A competition will be at White Wing Golf Club on the same days.
