‘Grease: School Version’ Coming to MIS/HPMS
Students at Highland Park Middle School and McCulloch Intermediate School are bringing the hit musical Grease to the stage this week, and their production is filled with plenty of vintage style, along with some newer twists.
Performances of Grease: School Version are at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 4 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, in the MIS/HPMS auditorium, 3555 Granada Ave.
Admission is $8, and can be purchased at the door, in the middle school cafeteria, or online by clicking HERE.
Grease: School Version combines elements of the original Broadway show with the 1978 movie starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John that got rave reviews from audiences and critics.
“This musical not only can be of peak interest to the kids once they get introduced to it … but it’s also going to hit the parents really well,” said MIS/HPMS theater director Genevieve Croft. “They probably grew up with it, and they’re in the same age bracket as I am.”
Croft, who saw the movie Grease with her father, said staging a performance of the musical has long been on her bucket list.
“What makes it unique, I think, is you’re going to come in and see an awesome performance, a professionally well-done one, but it’s put on by fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth graders,” she said.
Students have been preparing for the show since the end of January, and said that they’re looking forward to immersing audiences in the world of Danny, Sandy, T-Birds, and Pink Ladies.
“I hope that they realize how much work we put into it, and I hope they enjoy it,” said fifth-grader Lily Lynch, who is in the ensemble.
The show is family-friendly, and is suitable for all ages.
