Jesuit, HP Boys Keep Rolling in Playoffs
After being kept off the scoreboard the entirety of regulation play on Friday, Jesuit Dallas got its offense going and kept its soccer season alive.
The Rangers scored twice in just over two minutes during overtime, fueling a 2-0 win over Byron Nelson in a Class 6A Division II regional semifinal game in Coppell.
Drew Koshakji scored the tiebreaker and Zane Roland added the insurance for Jesuit, which advances to the fourth round of the playoffs for the first time since its state championship run in 2017.
The Rangers (20-1) will carry a 16-game winning streak into a showdown against fellow powerhouse Southlake Carroll (17-3-4) on Tuesday in the Region I final.
Jesuit generally controlled the run of play against the Bobcats (10-7-5), holding a 25-12 edge in shots, and a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal. Marcelo Elizondo and Jake Chostner made two saves apiece in goal for the Rangers.
In other boys playoff action on Friday, Highland Park will continue its postseason run after a convincing 3-1 victory over West Mesquite in Class 5A Division II.
The Scots (17-1-3) ran their unbeaten streak to 13 games ahead of a matchup against Mesquite Poteet (18-3-3) on Tuesday in the Region II final.
Jack O’Grady, Trey Shamburger, and Sebastian Benitez scored for HP, with O’Grady, Shamburger, and Jake Rhine providing the assists.
In 5A Division I, W.T. White fell 2-1 to undefeated Prosper Walnut Grove in the Region II semifinals. It was the first loss of the season for the Longhorns (17-1-3).
