Lady Scots Earn Another Playoff Shutout

The Highland Park girls earned their second consecutive dominating soccer playoff victory on Wednesday with a 4-0 thrashing of McKinney North in the Class 5A Division I area round.

Lucy Cox scored twice to lead the offensive barrage for the Lady Scots (18-3-2), which included three first-half goals off corner kicks. Also scoring were Maggie Deskin and Reagan Johansen, while Addie Brink contributed three assists.

After outscoring the first two postseason opponents by a combined margin of 10-0, HP advances to meet Red Oak (17-3-1) in the Region II semifinals on Friday in Mansfield.

In boys action on Wednesday, HP kept its playoff push alive with a 1-0 victory over Lovejoy in the area round of the 5A Division II bracket in Forney. Jake Rhine scored for the Scots (16-1-3), with Alex Santiago providing the assist.

Next up, HP carries a 12-game unbeaten streak into the Region II semifinals against West Mesquite (11-9-4) on Friday.
