Upgrades Coming to the Miracle Mile

The University Park city council came a major step closer to starting construction on the Miracle Mile during its March 18 meeting.

The council unanimously voted to award a contract for about $11.6 million to SYB Construction, which is also working on Snider Plaza improvements.

University Park will only be responsible for about half of the project’s cost. Dallas Area Rapid Transit is contributing $2.154 million to the project, and Dallas County has pledged up to $4.6 million in funds, assistant city manager Shanna Sims-Bradish told the council.

Construction on the Miracle Mile, which refers to the stretch of Lovers Lane between Douglas Avenue and the Dallas North Tollway, is slated to begin in May 2025, although work should not impact parking or businesses until June. Public meetings about the project will be held in April. Work on the Miracle Mile will continue in phases and should be complete in early fall 2026, Sims-Bradish said.

An improved design for the Miracle Mile was approved by the city council in June 2019, but discussions about the section of roadway began years prior, Sims-Bradish said.

Plans include improvements for motorists and pedestrians, safety upgrades, reconfiguration of the intersection at Douglas Avenue and Lovers Lane, and the addition of parking spaces and green space.
