Sontag Paces Lady Scots at Wills Invite
Ryan Sontag won two individual gold medals to help Highland Park defend its home track at the Tracy Wills Invitational on Saturday at Germany Park.
Sontag won both the 800 meters and 3,200 meters. In the latter event, the Lady Scots swept the podium with Finley Heckler and Maddie Heckler running behind Sontag.
HP also claimed the title in the 4×400 relay. The other winners for the Lady Scots were in field events — Sloane Ogle in the discus and Kaylee Schmidt in the shot put.
Participants in the all-girls meet included teams from Ursuline, Garland, Wylie, Saginaw, and Bells. Ursuline’s Eloise Crane won gold in the 1,600.
The annual meet is named in honor of Wills, a former standout athlete for the Lady Scots who died in March 1995 at age 15. The festivities included two divisions of a fun run for kids.
HP will next compete at Flower Mound Marcus on Friday in its final tuneup for the District 12-5A meet on April 2-3 in Carrollton.
