WTW, Jesuit Advance in Soccer Playoffs
W.T. White swept Bryan Adams in the first round of the Class 5A boys and girls soccer playoffs on Friday at Franklin Stadium.
The boys (16-0-3) remained unbeaten with a 2-0 shutout, thanks to goals by Angel Flores and Alan Torrente. Meanwhile, a hat trick by Ashanti Hall lifted the WTW girls (15-7-1) to a 5-1 win. Nicole Vitte and Soliel Salamone also scored for the Lady Longhorns.
Both WTW squads will face Midlothian in the area round. The Midlothian boys are the defending 5A state champions.
In other bi-district postseason action, the Hillcrest girls, who edged WTW for the regular-season title in District 13-5A, fell to Woodrow Wilson in penalty kicks following a 1-1 draw. The Hillcrest boys also were eliminated 2-0 by North Mesquite.
In Class 6A Division II, Jesuit Dallas earned its 14th consecutive win by blanking Arlington Lamar 2-0 in Irving. Corbyn Wendorf and Clyde Araiza tallied second-half goals for the Rangers (18-1), who will meet Denton Guyer next.
