Scots Prep for Playoff Success in Soccer
Highland Park will carry a 10-game winning streak into the Class 5A Division II boys soccer playoffs this week.
The Scots, who earned a share of the District 12-5A title, will begin their postseason push against Frisco Memorial at 6 p.m. Thursday in Richardson.
HP is coming off a dominating 5-0 shutout of Frisco Reedy in the regular-season finale on March 10, with Jake Rhine and Sebastian Benitez each scoring a pair of goals.
The Scots (15-1-2) have allowed only seven goals all season and have surrendered two goals only once — in a 2-0 loss to district co-champion Frisco Wakeland on Jan. 31 that marked their only defeat this season.
Meanwhile, the HP girls will face Frisco Heritage in their playoff opener in the 5A Division I bracket on Thursday in McKinney.
The Lady Scots (16-3-2) closed the regular season with three consecutive victories, and have outscored their opponents by a combined margin of 73-14 this season.
Five of those goals allowed came in two meetings against defending 5A champion Frisco Wakeland, who edged HP for the 12-5A title during the regular season. However, Wakeland is in the Division II playoff bracket, so the teams will not face one another moving forward.
