Longhorns, Rangers Ousted from Playoffs
W.T. White narrowly missed advancing to the third round of the Class 5A boys basketball playoffs for the third consecutive season following an overtime loss on Friday.
The Longhorns fell to Red Oak in a 54-47 thriller in a Region II area round game at Forester Fieldhouse to end their seven-game winning streak and their season.
Senior guard Ardon West, who scored 32 points in a bi-district victory over North Mesquite, led the way for WTW. The team’s first defeat in more than a month came by the same score as their win over the Stallions three days earlier.
In Class 6A, Jesuit Dallas suffered a heartbreaking 51-48 loss to powerhouse Denton Guyer in the Region II area round on Friday in Prosper.
Caleb Steger scored 15 points and Michael Grant added 12 in their final games for the Rangers (24-9), whose eight-game winning streak was snapped in the season-ending defeat.
