HP Girls Topple Bobcats, Keep Advancing
Highland Park is now further along in the Class 5A girls basketball playoffs than it has been in more than a decade.
The Lady Scots crushed Killeen Chaparral 60-37 on Monday in a Division I Region II semifinal in Hillsboro to reach the fourth round of postseason play for the first time since 2012.
After leading by double digits at halftime, HP broke open the game with a 12-0 run in the third quarter. Ellington Heis scored a game-high 18 points for the Lady Scots (24-12).
Kate Danner contributed 15 points and Lila Collins tallied 10 for HP, which put away the Bobcats (24-13) with a 10-0 spurt in the fourth quarter in one of its most impressive all-around performances of the season.
The Lady Scots will meet Red Oak in the regional final on Thursday at Mansfield Lake Ridge. The Hawks dispatched Frisco Heritage on Tuesday to advance.
