HP’s Elahmadi Claims 5A Wrestling Title

Highland Park senior Amin Elahmadi won a Class 5A state wrestling title on Saturday with a dramatic decision in the final of the 215-pound weight class.

Elahmadi (25-5) scored a 6-5 decision over Winnsboro’s Anthony Fulmer in suburban Houston to claim the first wrestling gold medal for the Scots since Aiden Conner in 2018.

The two-sport athlete, who also was a standout defensive lineman for HP in football, was making his first appearance at the state tournament. He finished third at the Region III meet in late January, while Fulmer was the regional champion with significant postseason experience. Elahmadi defeated four opponents over two days, including Anna’s Cash Williams in the semifinals.

HP’s Bennett Ham advanced early before being eliminated in the quarterfinals at 165 pounds, along with Hillcrest’s Victor Ramirez at 113 and Elijah Guzman at 138.

In 5A girls action, Hillcrest’s Alexa Rodriguez concluded her decorated high school career with a bronze medal at 100 pounds. And in 6A boys, Jesuit Dallas junior Kingston Stephens claimed third place at 106.
