Lady Scots Top Tyler in Playoff Thriller
After surviving a late Tyler comeback bid, Highland Park remained alive in the girls basketball playoffs on Thursday.
The Lady Scots held on for a 44-42 win over the Lady Lions in a Class 5A Division I area round game in Kaufman. HP will face Killeen Chaparral in the Region II quarterfinals on Monday in Hillsboro.
Kate Danner scored 20 points to lead the Lady Scots (23-12) and Ellington Heis added 11. After leading by double digits in the second half, HP won a second straight close game after topping Frisco Emerson 42-37 in its postseason opener.
The Lady Scots advance to the third round of postseason play for the first time since 2022, which was their most recent season in the 5A classification. They went two rounds deep in the 6A division in each of the last two years.
