Tourney Showcases Growth for HP Archery
Hitting the target for a burgeoning sport, the second annual Highland Park Archery Scholarship Tournament drew more than 700 archers from 38 high-school and middle-school campuses over the weekend.
The Scots finished fourth among 14 teams in the varsity division, led by Sean Brandt and Mitch Dauphinais, who tied for eighth individually among boys, each posting a score of 286 with 17 bullseyes.
Ashley Schumacher was the top HP competitor in the girls division, with a total of 281 and 13 bullseyes, good for 10th place. HP’s Michael Dyer shot one of 35 “perfect rounds” during the tournament.
The Scots’ contingent included 98 participants, including 40 from the high school and another 58 from Highland Park Middle School, which hosted the event. HP Archery Booster Club sponsored the tournament as part of the National Archery in Schools Program.
