Reports of Natural Gas Odor Elicit Emergency Crews
Technicians were called to the 12000 block of Inwood Road on Wednesday morning after reports of a natural gas smell came in from surrounding residents and businesses.
Construction crews confirmed the odor was the result of a broken gas main, according to an Atmos Energy representative.
The Company did not provide the cause of the ruptured gas main, but stated gas to the area has been turned off while crews make repairs, impacting several business and a school in the area.
The broken gas main is located near the Jesuit School of Dallas and the big-box retailer, Lowe’s.
For several hours, both directions of lanes along Inwood Road were closed between Forest Lane and Willow Lane; the hours-long closure prompting traffic detours.
In an update Wednesday afternoon, Atmos Energy indicated that the southbound lanes on Inwood Road had reopened. The spokesperson did not provide a timeline for the completion of repairs.
