Sutterfield Earns TTFCA Hall of Fame Nod
Former Highland Park cross country coach and administrator Jerry Sutterfield received another well-deserved accolade this month with his induction into the Texas Track & Field Hall of Fame.
Sutterfield spent more than three decades coaching at HP before retiring in 2013. He spent 18 of those years leading the girls track and cross country program, amassing nine state championships at the Class 4A level.
After coming to HP in 1985, he also coached football and boys track and field before moving full-time to overseeing the girls in 1997. A few years later, he became the lead administrator for all female sports in the district. He held that role for about 10 years.
Since his retirement, Sutterfield has spent time working as a track and field official. He was inducted into the Texas Girls Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2015.
Other members of the TTFCA Hall of Fame induction class this year, honored at a ceremony in Waco, included Jim Bevan, Regina Cavanaugh, Bobby Gilbreath, Robert “Speedy” Gonzales, Jimmy Howard, and James Lott.
