Lions Roar to Holiday Tournament Title
St. Mark’s made a statement toward competing for another SPC basketball championship this winter with a title in the Dallas ISD Holiday Invitational tournament on Saturday.
The Lions claimed the title with five straight victories over three days in the 16-team Gold Division bracket, culminating in a 54-50 overtime triumph over Frisco Panther Creek in the championship game.
Luke Laczkowski secured tournament MVP honors for the Lions (17-4), while teammates Dawson Battie and Pranav Danda also received all-tournament recognition. St. Mark’s earned wins over Skyline, Madison, Bishop Lynch, and Cedar Hill during its march through the winners’ bracket.
In other holiday tournament action, the Highland Park girls were victorious in three of four games to claim seventh place at the prestigious Mansfield Spring Creek Invitational.
The Lady Scots (11-11) defeated Huntsville in the opening round before falling to Mansfield Summit. They bounced back with wins over Keller Fossil Ridge and Spring Branch Memorial. HP junior Cate Young was named to the all-tournament team.
The Lady Scots will resume the District 12-5A schedule on Tuesday at Carrollton R.L. Turner before returning home on Friday to face The Colony.
