Rangers Top St. Mark’s for Tourney Title
Jesuit Dallas defended its home court in dramatic fashion on Saturday in the championship game of the annual Knights of Columbus Bob Stras Dallas Classic basketball tournament.
The Rangers rallied for an overtime win over St. Mark’s, 66-59, thanks to some late heroics by Caleb Steger. The tournament’s MVP hit a 3-pointer in the closing seconds of regulation to force overtime against the Lions.
Jesuit went 3-0 for the second consecutive year at its home tournament, also earning close victories over Lovejoy on Thursday and Frisco Memorial on Friday. The Rangers (6-3) had not won back-to-back titles at the event since 2018.
Meanwhile, the Lions (7-4) reached the championship game with a pair of narrow triumphs against Amarillo Tascosa in the first round and Melissa in the semifinals.
Cooper Jensen was named to the all-tournament team for Jesuit, joined by Dawson Battie and Luke Laczkowski of St. Mark’s.
Also at the eight-team tournament, Hillcrest dropped all three of its games to Memorial, Lovejoy, and Tascosa. The Panthers (3-9) have lost six straight overall.
