Roundup: Rangers Fall, Panthers Advance
In his final game in a Jesuit Dallas uniform on Friday, Charlie Peters tossed three touchdown passes and ran for three more scores.
However, the Rangers quarterback was outshined by the playmakers for Arlington Bowie, which prevailed 56-42 in a Class 6A Division II offensive showcase at Wilemon Stadium.
Darrion Bowers rushed for 286 yards and five touchdowns, while Larry Nichols threw for 323 yards and three scores for the Volunteers (8-3), who scored 35 points in the second half.
Bowie, which never trailed while tallying 626 yards of total offense, avenged a first-round defeat to Jesuit on the same field in the first round a year ago. The Volunteers won their eighth consecutive game following an 0-3 start.
Peters completed 35 of 45 passes for 323 yards in the defeat. Blake Bodnar and Shane Parker combined for 20 catches for 208 yards, with Bodnar scoring twice and Parker once for the Rangers (6-5).
In TAPPS playoff action on Friday, five-time defending Division I champion Parish Episcopal routed Houston St. Pius X by a 76-27 score at Snyder Stadium.
Sawyer Anderson led an unstoppable Parish offense with 429 passing yards on 18-of-22 completions with six touchdowns. Jaylen Pile was the top receiver with 123 yards and two touchdowns. Bryson Fields and Carson Darby combined for 200 yards and three scores.
Marcus Hanish ran for 129 yards and a touchdown, one of 10 scored by the Panthers (7-4) in the first three quarters of their highest-scoring game of the season. The Parish defense forced four turnovers.
Next up is a pivotal showdown against longtime district rival Plano Prestonwood, which upset the Panthers 52-49 in a regular-season clash on Oct. 25.
Meanwhile, Covenant launched its postseason run in Division III with a dominating 35-12 victory over Austin Hill Country.
Lleyton Horan threw for 350 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for an additional 102 yards and a score to lead the Knights (8-3), who racked up 532 yards of total offense.
Duke Black finished with a team-high eight catches for 122 yards and a touchdown for Covenant, while Campbell Peterson had four grabs for 103 yards and a score.
The Knights advance to a second-round matchup against Colleyville Covenant in a rematch of a regular-season clash from Oct. 4, which the Cougars won 13-7. However, the Knights won both matchups a year ago, including in the postseason.
