SKULDUGGERY OF THE WEEK: BEFUDDLED BANDIT

Reported at 4:11 p.m. on Aug. 26: A crook appeared confused when some of the credit cards she had stolen from the Texas Family Fitness were declined at Jimmy Choo in Highland Park Village. She had already tried to shop at DIOR Dallas and Chanel, where she succeeded in making a fraudulent charge for over $11,000.

UNIVERSITY PARK

27 Tuesday

Reported at 12:09 p.m. on Hillcrest Avenue: a 2021 Lexus had a cracked front windshield.

28 Wednesday

Officers stopped a 2016 Ford Focus on Lovers Lane at about 10:48 p.m. and arrested the driver for driving while intoxicated.

29 Thursday

Reported at 9:27 a.m.: A pedaling pilferer stole a bike from the porch of a home on Centenary Drive.

30 Friday

Officers arrested the driver of a 2019 Jeep Cherokee for driving while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance at about 5:15 a.m. on Greenbrier Drive.

An electric bike was reported damaged at about 7:08 p.m. on the Highland Park Middle School/McCulloch Intermediate School campus.

31 Saturday

A man reported criminal mischief to officers at about 11:56 a.m. in the 3800 block of McFarlin Boulevard

A license plate looter stole the plate of a 2020 BMW X3 on Stanford Avenue before 2:22 p.m..

1 Sunday

Officers stopped a 2004 Toyota Camry at about 2:27 a.m., then arrested the passenger for possession of a controlled substance, and cited the driver for possession of drug paraphernalia. The officers seized suspected hallucinogenic mushrooms and marijuana in ziploc bags.

HIGHLAND PARK

26 Monday

A reckless roadster caused a chain reaction in the 3500 block of Mockingbird Avenue at about 3:05 p.m. when they hit a 2020 Alfa Romeo Stelvio waiting at a traffic light, pushing it into a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe. They left both cars with damage, but did not leave identifying information.

27 Tuesday

Reported at 2:32 p.m.: A mad motorist followed a driver who had made a rude hand signal to his home in the 4500 block of Roland Avenue, yelled at the other driver, and kicked his van, leaving a dent.

A shoplifter stuck a $448 crossbody purse under her peach colored dress at about 3:12 p.m. and snuck out of Tory Burch in Highland Park Village.

A speed limit sign and tree in the 4500 block of Mockingbird Lane were hit by the careless driver of a Hyundai before 4:02 p.m.

28 Wednesday

Officers arrested a woman on multiple warrants at about 7:05 p.m. at the intersection of Abbott Avenue and Lindenwood Avenue.

29 Thursday

Officers arrested a man on a warrant, and for driving without insurance or a license at 3:45 a.m. in the 3400 block of Fitzhugh Avenue.

A sneaky thief stole a bag containing a wallet, credit and debit cards, a driver’s license, Beats headphones, sunglasses, a key fob, and $186 before 4:15 p.m. from Mi Cocina in Highland Park Village while the bag’s owner was working in the restaurant.

30 Friday

Reported at 7:54 a.m.: One or more scoundrels struck three cars in the 3200, 3300, and 3400 blocks of Princeton Avenue between Thursday evening and Friday morning. They damaged the window of one, perhaps while attempting to enter it, and rummaged through two more, but did not appear to take anything.

Reported at 10:05 a.m.: A potential burglar tried and failed to pry open the door to a detached garage and apartment in the 4400 block of Lorraine Avenue between Aug. 26 and Aug. 28.

A man came to the police department lobby at 4700 Drexel Drive at about 2:58 p.m. to tell officers that a fraudster had persuaded him to send $570 via Venmo in seven separate transactions.

31 Saturday

Officers arrested a woman on a warrant and for driving without a license at about 12 a.m. in the 3600 block of Cragmont Avenue.

A resident of the 3400 block of Lindenwood Avenue told officers at about 7:39 a.m. that he had received notice of a lawsuit alleging that he opened a line of credit which was opened by a fraudster in his name.

Officers arrested a man for driving without a license, mail theft, and obscuring a license plate before 10:30 a.m. in the 3600 block of Cragmont Avenue.

Officers made an arrest for disorderly conduct, warrants, and public intoxication at about 4:56 p.m. in Highland Park Village.
