Lady Scots Race to Team Title in Opener
The Highland Park girls started fast by winning the season-opening Plano ISD Invitational cross country meet on Aug. 10.
The Lady Scots were led by sophomore Ryan Sontag, who placed fifth, completing the two-mile course at Hoblitzelle Park in 12 minutes, 12 seconds. Finley Heckler and Maddie Heckler also finished in the top 10 individually for HP.
The team followed up that race with a second-place showing at the Woodhouse Invitational meet at Lakeview Camp in Waxahachie.
Meanwhile, the HP boys posted an impressive runner-up finish in their first race of the season on Friday at McInnish Park in Carrollton.
Bennett Blevins paced the Scots in the two-mile race, running eighth overall in a time of 10:23. All seven HP athletes in the elite varsity division were separated by less than 32 seconds.
Next up, the Scots will compete on Aug. 24 in Flower Mound, while the Lady Scots will make their annual appearance at the Greenhill Six-Mile Relay at Norbuck Park.
