HP, Jesuit Athletes Advance to Regionals
Several athletes from Highland Park and Jesuit Dallas won gold medals at the area track and field meet on Thursday at Jesuit, and advanced to the Class 6A Region I meet on April 19-20 in Arlington.
HP won the boys team title at the meet, which included top competitors from the 7-6A and 8-6A district meets earlier this month.
Individual event champions included HP’s Mark Nance (1,600) and Spencer Haag (3,200). Cooper Moore also finished in a three-way tie for the pole vault title that included Jesuit’s Thatch Balady. Meanwhile, Jesuit’s Henry Beckman won the 800 and anchored the winning 4×400 relay.
Other athletes advancing to regionals for the HP boys include Jacob Ariyo (high jump), Jack Danner (400), Haag (1,600), and Moore (110 hurdles). Jesuit’s other individual medalists were Harlan Beucler (200) and Charlie Thornton (800).
In girls action, HP was the runner-up behind Arlington Martin in the team standings, led by distance runner Maddie Heckler, who claimed victory in both the 1,600 and 3,200. Also advancing to regionals for the Lady Scots are Ryan Sontag (1,600 and 3,200), Caroline Scott (400 and 800), Catherine Hale (high jump), and Zoya Jordan (pole vault).
