SKULDUGGERY OF THE WEEK: SUPER-POWERED SCOUNDREL?
Reported at 4:01 p.m. March 20: A package pilferer stole a delivery containing Chanel 2019 Interlocking CC logo hiking boots worth $1,425 and a Chanel travel ligne duffle bag worth $525 from the front porch of a home in the 4300 block of St. Johns Drive. Could the swindler have had X-ray vision? He left another package that did not contain anything of value on the porch.
UNIVERSITY PARK
18 Monday
Reported at 2:23 p.m.: A dirty thief stole four cases of Tide Pods, four cases of Michelob ULTRA, and two bottles of Veuve Clicquot wine from Tom Thumb on Villanova Street.
Officers responded to a family violence assault at 7:27 p.m. on Preston Road.
20 Wednesday
A brazen burglar stole cash, a briefcase, two computers, a passport and a key fob before 6:35 p.m. from a BMW in the Plaza at Preston Center.
21 Thursday
An officer made a traffic stop at 1:51 a.m., then arrested the driver for driving while intoxicated on an unspecified roadway.
A joyrider stole an unlocked Cadillac Escalade before 2:11 p.m. on Lovers Lane.
22 Friday
Officers responded to a suspicious person call at 4:30 a.m. on McFarlin Boulevard, then arrested a man for public drunkenness and on an outstanding warrant.
A sleepless swindler broke the back window of a GMC sports utility vehicle and stole Burberry pajama pants before 8:01 a.m. on Amherst Street.
23 Saturday
How easy was it for a thief to steal a leather purse and wallet, reader glasses, cash, a Samsung cell phone, car keys, a checkbook, credit cards, a driver’s license and a health insurance card from a Range Rover Sportage prior to 1:17 p.m. on Lovers Lane? The car was left unlocked.
Officers issued a citation after responding to a call regarding suspicious activity involving underage drinking at 9:04 p.m. on Centenary Drive.

Officers arrested a woman for public intoxication at 3:55 a.m. on Grassmere Lane.
HIGHLAND PARK
18 Monday
Reported at 10:27 a.m.: A bright yellow overnight bag containing clothes and a green toiletry bag was missing in action after it left its owner’s Lincoln Navigator in the 3600 block of Normandy Avenue without his permission and started moving around the Dallas area, according to the Apple AirTag in the bag.
19 Tuesday
Officers arrested thieves for stealing property worth between $2,500 and $30,000 at 8:30 p.m. in the 3400 block of Mockingbird Lane. One of the arrestees did not have proof of insurance or a driver’s license.
20 Wednesday
The careless driver of a Ford SUV struck another vehicle before 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of South Versailles Avenue and Lomo Alto Drive, then fled the scene of the accident.
21 Thursday
Officers made a warrant arrest at 12:59 a.m. in the 3600 block of Mockingbird Lane.
The reckless driver of a black SUV sideswiped a Toyota parked in the 4600 block of Beverly Drive at about 3:31 p.m., then drove off without leaving information.
22 Friday
A burglar may have been disappointed after they broke the rear glass door of a BMW parked at the Shops of Highland Park and stole a black computer bag before 9:40 p.m. There was no computer in the bag.
23 Saturday
A poor parker sideswiped a Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 while trying to pull into a spot between two cars near the intersection of Mockingbird Lane and Douglas Avenue before 1 p.m., then drove off without leaving information.
A careless driver hit a Jeep Wrangler parked in the 5300 block of Armstrong Parkway before 10:25 p.m. The driver didn’t provide identifying information, but may have left behind computer components, pieces of black plastic with identifying numbers and symbols, and a magnet with an American flag and the words “Charleston South Carolina.”
