Snider Plaza to Get Replacement Fountain
Snider Plaza’s fountain will be replaced over the next 18 to 24 months in conjunction with the Snider Plaza improvements project.
The existing fountain often requires maintenance due to its age, said city engineer Katie Barron. The new fountain will be up to code and will run more efficiently.
The new fountain’s basin and pedestal have been designed to replicate the existing fountain as closely as possible. Changes include additional jets, LED lighting, and custom cut stone pieces, Barron said. Neighborhood meetings about the fountain redesign began in 2020, and the design has been refined with community input.
“It’s close to the community’s heart,” Barron explained. “Everybody recognizes its significance. We were really excited to be able to include this as part of our project.”
The University Park City Council approved a $1,661,510 contract with Greenscape Construction Services to replace the fountain at its December meeting.
