SKULDUGGERY OF THE WEEK: SMASH AND GRAB

A burglar smashed a window of a Dodge R15 in the 4300 block of Macarthur Avenue and grabbed a backpack with a Dell laptop and other items inside before 6:20 p.m. Oct. 19.

HIGHLAND PARK

16 Monday

Reported at 1:42 p.m.: a homeowner in the 3100 block of Drexel Drive didn’t pay for $16,596 worth of electrical work. 

A passerby found a set of keys on the ground in the 3900 block of Gillon Avenue at 4:36 p.m. and turned it in to police.

17 Tuesday

Reported at 1:24 p.m.: a fraudster used the information of a woman from the 4500 block of Rheims Place to open a Verizon account and amass $4,581.59 in debt on it.

18 Wednesday

Arrested at 9:09 a.m.: a 32 year old accused of possession of drug paraphernalia in the 4200 block of Lomo Alto Drive

A careless driver hit a Chevrolet Malibu parked in the 4200 block of Livingston Avenue at 7:30 p.m. and didn’t stop to leave information. 

Arrested at 11:54 p.m.: a 30 year old accused of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon in the 3600 block of Potomac Avenue

20 Friday

Reported at 10:01 a.m.: a scammer used the information of a woman from the 4400 block of Bordeaux Avenue to try to open an American Express account.

A jerk broke the back window of a Jeep Compass in the 4800 block of St. Johns Drive before 3:30 p.m.

21 Saturday

Arrested at 1:53 a.m.: a 23 year old accused of public intoxication in the 3300 block of Beverly Drive.

Arrested art 1:55 a.m.: a 24 year old accused of public intoxication in the 3300 block of Beverly Drive

A swindler used the information of a woman from the 3900 block of Potomac Avenue to try to make a $728.43 transaction at 8:09 a.m.

Arrested at 8:53 a.m.: a 35 year old accused of failure to identify, intentionally giving false information, possession of drug paraphernalia, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and for warrants in the 4300 block of Lorraine Avenue

22 Sunday

Arrested at 1:16 a.m.: a 32 year old accused of driving while intoxicated in Highland Park Village

Reported at 11:25 a.m.: an intruder got into a detached garage in the 3100 block of St. Johns Drive and rummaged through it but didn’t take anything. 

UNIVERSITY PARK

16 Monday 

A burglar got into a Jeep Cherokee parked at Park Cities Plaza and took a pair of AirPods, a Macbook Pro, and an iPad Pro at 3:44 p.m. 

A fraudster took $535,000 in the 4300 block of Lovers Lane from a resident before 4 p.m. 

18 Wednesday

Arrested at 7:51 a.m.: a 53-year-old man accused of theft of property. No address was given. Also arrested at 7:51 a.m.: a 57-year-old man accused of theft of property in the 3000 block of Mockingbird Lane

A thief found easy pickings of various tools left in an unlocked Mercedes 350 in the 3000 block of Hanover Street at 10:46 a.m. 

A crook used the information of a woman from the 3000 block of Stanford Avenue to charge $636.88 to a card at 1:47 p.m. 

19 Thursday

Arrested at 2:43 a.m.: a 51-year-old man accused of assault in the 4400 block of Grassmere Lane.

21 Saturday

Arrested at 2:22 a.m.: a 33-year-old woman accused of public intoxication in the 6900 block of Preston Road

A mischiefmaker caused damage at Hilltop Plaza before 5 p.m. 

22 Sunday

Arrested at 2:45 a.m.: a 23-year-old woman accused of driving while intoxicated in the 3200 block of Lovers Lane
