SKULDUGGERY OF THE WEEK: PHONE FRAUD

A schemer made an arrangement to buy an iPhone by taking it from a mailbox in the 3300 block of Cornell Avenue, and took the phone before 7:30 p.m. Dec. 30, but didn’t leave the agreed-upon money.

HIGHLAND PARK

26 Monday

Arrested at 1:24 a.m.: a 51-year-old woman accused of driving while intoxicated in the 4200 block of Mockingbird Lane.

27 Tuesday

A burglar broke into a Mini Cooper parked outside the Whole Foods in the 4100 block of Lomo Alto Drive before 9:30 a.m.

28 Wednesday

A patron of the Juice Bar in Highland Park Village lost a necklace with a diamond pendant before 2 p.m.

29 Thursday

Reported at 11:56 a.m.: A thief took a Trek bicycle from a carport in the 3400 block of Mockingbird Lane, but left a child’s bicycle, then returned later to take a Schwinn bicycle from the same carport. 

A burglar found easy pickings of a luggage bag containing clothes, a tote bag containing AirPod Pros and makeup, a Fendi purse, a pair of Beats headphones, a Versace chain and medallion, and a tote bag with sneakers left in an apparently unlocked Mercedes GLE parked near Celine at 4:40 p.m. in Highland Park Village. 

30 Friday

Arrested at 12:09 a.m.: a 29 year old accused of driving while intoxicated in the 4300 block of Lakeside Drive.

Arrested at 4:55 a.m.: a 30 year old accused of driving while intoxicated in the 4300 block of Oak Lawn Avenue

A crook drove off in a Ford Fusion that was parked in the 4800 block of Preston Road before 4:12 p.m.

A careless driver hit a Chevrolet pickup parked in the 4500 block of Belclaire Avenue at 10 p.m., but didn’t leave information.

1 Sunday

Not a great way to start the new year. The driver of a Nissan Murano left the SUV parked blocking a driveway in the 3800 block of Normandy Avenue before 5:45 p.m., so it was towed away.

26 Monday

Reported at 2:51: a porch pirate pilfered a package from outside a home in the 3600 block of Villanova Drive.

27 Tuesday

A robber took merchandise from a CVS in the 3000 block of Mockingbird Lane at 4:52 p.m.

28 Wednesday

A careless driver failed to comply with requirement after hitting an unattended vehicle in the 3800 block of Marquette Street before 1:59 a.m.

A crook took construction equipment from a site in Snider Plaza before 7 a.m.

Reported at 4:51 p.m.: a shoplifter snatched hair products from a CVS in Snider Plaza

Reported at 8:56 p.m.: a ne’er do well drove off in a Chevrolet Cruz from Preston Center Plaza.

29 Thursday

A porch pirate pilfered packages containing various clothes from a home in the 2800 block of University Boulevard before 12:51 p.m.

31 Saturday 

A burglar broke into a Ferrari in the 8300 block of Preston Road and took a $3,600 Louis Vuitton briefcase before 10:08 a.m. 

A thief took key fobs and a vest from a locker room at the Moody Family YMCA in the 6000 block of Preston Road before 11 a.m. 

1 Sunday

Shoplifters took stuff from the Tom Thumb in Snider Plaza and hit someone with their car as they were leaving the scene before 10:35 p.m.
