Scots Set for Loaded Regional in Tennis

Highland Park has spent all season preparing itself for the rigors of the Class 6A team tennis playoffs, hoping to carry over unprecedented success at the 5A level to the toughest region in the state’s largest classification.

The Region I tournament this week will be loaded with perennial powers, beginning with the Scots meeting Southlake Carroll on Thursday at the Arlington Tennis Center. The winner will face either Allen or Keller on Friday to advance to the state tournament.

HP has cruised through the first three rounds of the playoffs with victories over Arlington, Flower Mound, and Coppell. However, the Scots (16-2) fell to both Carroll and Allen during the regular season.

In the 10-2 victory over Coppell, HP took a 6-1 lead after the doubles matches thanks to wins by Leo Hall and Erica Zeitman, Carl Newell and Will Hinze, Alex Lajous and Caleb Sammer, Eden Rogozinski and Briana Rees, Rebecca Borrego and Mia Rogozinski, and Avery Ryan and Gigi Patterson. Singles winners included Eden Rogozinski, Newell, Borrego, and Rees.

The 6A state tournament is scheduled for Oct. 26-27 in College Station, where HP has triumphed in 5A for the past six years. The program has 22 state championships overall during the fall season, which is the most of any school in Texas.
